The Creative Hub Ethiopia
Filmmaking Academy

Addis Ababa

The project is carried out at Creative Hub Ethiopia and funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS). It is implemented by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).

Within this framework, Anica Academy will implement an advanced training and production programme aimed at strengthening the artistic and professional development of emerging filmmakers. The programme promotes international cooperation and fosters dialogue between technical expertise, cultural identity, and contemporary cinematic language through a structured, practice-oriented methodology.

Programme Timeline

The programme opens with the first training module. Participants begin developing their ideas and preparing project pitches, working on concept development, narrative structure and professional presentation materials. Five projects are developed and presented through a synopsis, treatment and pitch book.

One project is selected for further development through dedicated scriptwriting sessions. Participants also attend masterclasses during the Addis Film Festival, before completing the final script in early June.

The programme enters the pre-production phase. Training focuses on line production, planning and scheduling, while crews are formed through modules in directing, cinematography and sound.

The short film is shot in Ethiopia following a week of preparation. All production activities are supervised by instructors across the key departments.

The teaser of the short film will be developed by the end of 2026, with further opportunities for presentation in 2027.
