Alessandro Usai was born in Imperia in 1971. He graduated in Business Economics from Bocconi University in Milan in 1994 and obtained a PhD in Business Economics from the University of Bologna in 2000. From 1995 to 2003, he was a lecturer and researcher at Bocconi University in Milan. From 2001 to 2004, was involved in drafting Legislative Decree 28/2004, known as the ‘Urbani Decree’, which reformed public intervention in the film industry, as advisor to the Minister. He served as Chairman of Circuito Cinema Srl between 2008 and 2009 and as General Manager of Cinecittà Holding S.p.A. from 2003 to 2006. From September 2006 to October 2009, he served as Chief Executive Officer of Mikado Film S.p.A. (De Agostini Communications Group) and of Dolmen Srl (a subsidiary of Mikado Film, active in the home video sector). He served as Chief Executive Officer of the Colorando Film Group and taught Media Economics at Bocconi University in Milan, the Bocconi School of Management and LUISS in Rome. Since November 2004, he has been President of ANICA (National Association of Film, Audiovisual and Digital Industries) and in 2025 he co-founded the production company No Name Entertainment.
