Francesca Mazzoleni

Francesca Mazzoleni (born 1989) is a director and writer. She graduated in Film Directing from the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Rome and began working across both fiction and documentary. After making several short films that won awards at international festivals, such as Il Premio, nominated for the 2015 Nastri d’Argento, she made her feature film debut in 2018 with the coming-of-age film Succede, produced by Indigo Film and Warner Bros Italia. In 2020, she directed the documentary film Punta Sacra, about the community of the Ostia Idroscalo, which won Best International Film at Visions du Réel 2020, was nominated for Best Documentary at the 2021 David di Donatello Awards, won the Valentina Pedicini Award at the Nastri d’Argento, and received awards at more than 70 festivals worldwide. She directed an episode of the TV series Romulus II, produced by Groenlandia and Cattleya for Sky, and two episodes of the series Supersex, loosely based on the life of Rocco Siffredi, produced by The Apartment and Groenlandia for Netflix and premiered at the 2024 Berlinale.
