Maria Pia Ammirati

Maria Pia Ammirati is a television executive, writer and journalist.
After working as a journalist and committed critic, she joined Rai in 1992. Since 1993, she has been involved in radio and television programs as a program planner and director, writer and presenter.
In 2000, she moved from the Educational Department to Rai 1, where she worked as Head of Network Secretariat, Project Manager, Head of Department and Deputy Director. She focused in particular on daytime programs, often writing them herself. In 2011, as Deputy Director, she oversaw the entire network’s daytime schedule.
From 2014 to 2020, she was Director of Rai Teche.
From 2016 to 2019, she was put in charge of RaiPlay content.
In November 2020, she was appointed Director of Rai Fiction.
She is the author of novels and numerous publications. She has received several awards, including: shortlisted for the 2001 Strega Prize, shortlisted for the 2011 Campiello Prize, the Procida Prize and the Basilicata Prize. For her work in the entertainment industry, she received the 2014 Rodolfo Valentino Italian Excellence Award, organized by the Rodolfo Valentino Foundation.
She is a member of numerous literary juries, including the Strega Prize and the Viareggio Prize.
From August 2017 to June 2020, she served on the Board of Directors of Rai Cinema S.p.A.
From June 2020 to April 2021, she was President of Istituto Luce – Cinecittà.
She is a member of the Board of Directors of the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma and the GNAM (National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art) in Rome. She is a member of the scientific council of the Central Institute for Sound and Audiovisual Heritage.
