Nicola Borrelli

A graduate in Economics and Business, he began his career in the civil service in 1997. In October 2000, he became a senior official in the Department of Performing Arts (MiBACT – Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Activities and Tourism) and subsequently headed both the Directorate-General for Cinema and the Directorate-General for Performing Arts, a role he held until 2025.
From 2009 to 2019, he served as Director-General for Cinema. In particular, he coordinated all administrative, accounting and management procedures relating to the legislative reform of the Italian film sector and contributed to the drafting of the law on tax credits.
From August 2019 to March 2020, he was appointed Director-General for Contemporary Creativity and Urban Regeneration.
From 2020 to 2025, he served as Director-General of the DGCA (Directorate-General for Cinema and Audiovisual Affairs at the Ministry of Culture).
He is currently Director-General of the Directorate-General for Sustainability and Planning of the Higher Education System at the Ministry of University and Research.
