Intimacy Coordinator in Action

Wednesday, 16 January 2024

A panel discussion with audiovisual industry professionals on the importance of the Intimacy Coordinator role, its scope of action on set and its responsibilities. The event explored the needs that have given rise to this professional figure — ensuring that scenes are represented and managed in a safe and respectful manner — with an in-depth look at examples from film and television productions in which an Intimacy Coordinator has been involved.

Anica Academy was represented at the event by President Francesco Rutelli, Secretary General Francesca Medolago Albani and Director Sergio Del Prete.

Moderated by Piera Detassis (President and Artistic Director of the Accademia del Cinema Italiano – David di Donatello Awards, and Editor at Large for Cinema and Entertainment at Hearst), the panel featured: Chiara d’Alfonso (Head of Production Italy at Netflix), Luisa Lazzaro (Certified Intimacy Coordinator), Vittoria Puccini (Actress and President of UNITA), Edoardo De Angelis (Director) and Francesco Vedovati (Casting Director).

The first training course on the Intimacy Coordinator, organised by Anica Academy ETS, launched on 30 September, in collaboration with Safe Sets, one of the leading international providers of Intimacy Coordination training. Netflix, one of the founding members of Anica Academy ETS, was the first to suggest and strongly advocate for the creation of this course. Sky Italia is a partner and sponsor of the initiative, through the contribution of Sky Studios.

In addition to director Marco Bellocchio, the event also welcomed another key player in the sector: the industry association Intimacy Coordination Italia – IC Italia, which hosted for the first time in Italy — from the United Kingdom — the Moving Body Arts’ Intimacy Coordinator Certification Programme 2023-24 training, in collaboration with Prime Video.
